Q:
Does the Dot System apply to Player characters as
well?
A: The
dot system does not apply to a player, so you can
never be absolutely sure what level a player is
(unless they have told you). However, with practice,
you can begin to make decent approximations about
a player's level. First, look at the player's armor
and weapon. Learn your enemy races' armors. With
practice, you'll be able to tell a player's level
by their appearance. Also, to the left of their
name you will see a symbol. This symbol represents
their rank in the race. While not always the best
method of determining a level, a rank can be used
to determine who are the stronger players within
the race.
Q:
How does RF Online distinguish levels against monsters?
A: RFO
uses what is called the Dot System to gauge a monster’s
level. Depending on how many dots a monster has
determines their level relative to the player.
Q:
How does the system work and what does ‘x’
number of dots mean?
A: When
you select a monster, a box will appear on the top
of your screen giving you their name, monster type,
health bar, and dots. These dots are relative to
the player’s current level and change as the
player levels change. The more dots a monster has
around its name, the higher the level the monster
is relative to the player. There are 7 dots in total.
Let’s take Bellato “Helper” for
example. Helper is currently level 11. Monsters
that are the same level as Helper will have 2 dots
on their stats. Monsters that are level 10 will
have 1 dot next to their name. This means they are
one level under him and can still gain PTs and EXP
from battling them. Monsters with 3 dots are one
level higher than Helper, level 12. Each additional
dot represents one additional level that the monster
is higher than Helper. Monsters with the 7th, big
blue dot on their stats are 5+ levels higher than
Helper. They could be anywhere from level 16 and
up. Monsters with 0 dots displayed mean these monsters
are 2 levels or under your current level. You will
not receive PTs or EXP from battling them. Over
time as you level, monsters that may have been 2
dots will become 0 dots, as they are no longer equal
to your own level.
Q:
What is the purpose of 0 dot monsters?
A: While
you might not receive PTs or EXP from these monsters
you will still receive booty drops from them. They
will also still count towards any quests you might
have that require them.
